Why right-clicking gives you a tiny image
The page doesn’t load the artwork you can actually see at full size.
SoundCloud stores several sizes of every cover and picks a small one for the page — usually -large.jpg, which despite the name is 100×100. Saving that image gives you a blurry square, which is why it looks wrong the moment you use it anywhere else.
The size is part of the filename, so the full version is sitting at the same URL with a different token: -t500x500.jpg. That’s what this fetches. You get SoundCloud’s original JPEG bytes, passed straight through without re-compression.

Questions
What resolution do I get?
500×500, which is the largest size SoundCloud stores for track artwork. The image on the page itself is usually the 100×100 thumbnail, so saving it from your browser gives you something far smaller than what's available.
Why can't I get a bigger version?
Because one doesn't exist. SoundCloud generates a fixed set of sizes and 500×500 (sometimes labelled t500x500) is the top of it. Any site offering you 1000×1000 is upscaling, which adds no detail.
Can I get a user's avatar or a playlist cover?
Playlist covers, yes — paste the set URL. Avatars aren't exposed here; paste one of the artist's tracks and you'll get that track's artwork, which for many artists is the same image.
Do I need to download the audio too?
No. The artwork button works on its own — resolve a link and save just the image. The audio download embeds the same artwork automatically if you do want both.
What format is the image?
JPEG, as SoundCloud stores it. We pass the bytes through unchanged rather than re-compressing, so there's no extra quality loss.
